About Human-Centered Data Science
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently a central topic in computer science, as its application in various fields such as education, finance, gaming, and medicine has significant impacts. These AI-based technologies save time, reduce costs, and lessen human effort in performing tasks — for example, by providing more accurate diagnoses to support patient treatment. Despite the promising developments in the field of AI, concerns are growing about unwanted and even serious consequences of AI-based technologies, such as discrimination, privacy violations, or manipulation of decisions. Against this background, the goal of the ENKIS project at Freie Universität Berlin was to establish courses on responsible AI for different target groups. This website focuses on materials for students in the fields of Responsible and Trustworthy AI.
On this website we provide various materials that can be used by interested students for self-learning, teachers, course instructors – by everyone. On the left we provide learning units based on the Trustworthy AI aspects. Each learning unit consists of materials such as videos, lecture slides, slides to specific topics, interactive elements such as jupyter notebooks and more. If you want to introduce your students to responsible AI topics, choose what topic may be of interest and decide whether to use our materials for homework assignments or as in-lecture crash courses.
Besides the learning units, we provide various materials under “Excursions”. Here you find materials for a diverse audience ranging from materials to introduce students to how chatbots work to an interactive experience to learn about AI’s functioning and how difficult it is to decide when to trust and rely on AI.
The project therefore includes the design and implementation of didactically innovative courses in the field of AI, the further development of existing AI-related courses based on the research and teaching focus "Responsible Artificial Intelligence," and the building of didactic expertise in the research-led design of courses on digitalization, data literacy, and AI.
For teachers, you find didactical helpers on how to use jupyter notebooks, how to evaluate students’ reflection and collection of external courses.
In summary, our goal is to make education accessible to all. As AI becomes increasingly important, our goal is to prepare future computer scientists to be able to develop and implement solutions and think critically about the consequences of their decisions.
